Blog Post 6 [PB]

It’s blog tiiiime, it’s blog tiiiime, it’s time for, the strangest thing, this stinking bloooooooooog! Okay, now that the song hour is over, and I got to now do a blog otherwise my grade goes in the pooper; it’s time to discuss another topic, video games and what games I play, mainly, Doom. With Doom 2 getting it’s 20th anniversary in the year, I’d like to discuss some custom mods for Doom and similar, links to the mods will be posted.

Samsara: This mod allows you to play as classic FPS characters in, well, Doom. We some characters we know, like Duke Nukem, Doomguy, Ranger from Quake, and others, and then we have some characters from games you probably don’t know, like the security officer from marathon. This mod is perfectly balanced for deathmatch and coop play, with cvars for all of them, tons of customizability, and other features, I give Samsara a 9/10. Link to the mod is here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?t=33219

Demonsteele (the last e is silent): A mod influenced by anime and 90s heavy metal, Demonsteele is very very fast; you’ll be zipping around at lightning speeds, slicing up demons or gunning them down, Demonsteele has many things that make a good Doom mod, such as balanced monsters (save for the archviles), satisfying gameplay and weapons, full on voice acting, and much more, I give Demonsteele a 10/10. Link to the mod is here, pardon the engrish: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=46787

Russian Overkill: A mod about things exploding, a lot of vodka, and unbalanced as all get out weapons, Russian Overkill is meant for slaughterwads (wads with tons of monsters coming at you all at once), Russian Overkill is different from other wads where it has tons of weapons, tons of ammo, tons of explosions, tons of firemodes, and tons of vodka. Russian Overkill gives you many, many, many, weapons to work with, and all of them do one thing similar, they all kill monsters in one hit, and in many ways. Weather it be gunning them down with a 3 way healer, machinegun, shield, and plasma rifle all in one, or nuking them with the redeemer from Unreal Tournament, or vaporizing them with a orbital ION CANNON, or stretching them with a black hole launcher. Russian Overkill is given a 8/10. A link to the mod is here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=29915

The Adventures of Square: Yes, you play as a mspaint square in a world full of shapes, yes, you blow up other shapes into colorful chunks, yes, it’s awesome. The Adventures of Square is a currently work in progress mod, with the squareware (bad puns ahoy) episode currently out, the adventures of square is a very fun mod, and very challenging, with it’s projectiles spewing monsters, it’s really good weapons, and more. The Adventures of Square gets a 10/10. A link is provided here: http://forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=46604

  2. Right, first off, you need to get a Doom source port called "GZDoom" or "ZDoom" if your computer can't run it (link is here: devbuilds.drdteam.org/gzdoom/ ), second, download The Adventures of Square, Third, place (G)ZDoom in a folder of your choice,, along with The Adventures of Square. Fourth, drag and drop square.pk3 (or similar) onto (G)ZDoom, fifth, select Doom 2, and finally, mess with the options until you are comfortable. And thats how you play The Adventures of Square.
